Curriculum Vitae MAURO BERNARDI

Born in Bologna in 1947, he graduated in Medicine (1972) and postgraduated in Gastroenterology (1975) and Internal Medicine (1977) at Bologna University. He was research assistant at Chieti (1973-1978) and Bologna Universities (1978-1983); in 1975 he was appointed as research fellow at the Liver Unit of King’s College Hospital in London.
He was appointed as Associate Professor of Pathophysiology in 1983 and Professor of Internal Medicine in 1995, at Bologna University.
He was visiting professor at Haifa (Israel) and Würzburg (Germany) Universities in 1984 and 1986.
He was director of the Postgraduate School in Sports Medicine, University of Bologna (1990-1999) and the Istituto di Patologia Speciale Medica e Metodologia Clinica, University of Bologna (1995-1996).
From November 1998, he is head of the unit Semeiotica Medica, Policlinico S. Orsola-Malpighi, Bologna, and from November 2000 he is director of the Department of Medicina Interna, Cardioangiologia, Epatologia, University of Bologna.
He is member of the International, European and Italian Associations for the Study of the Liver, the Italian Society of Internal Medicine, the International Ascites Club and the International Association of Surgeons and Gastroenterologists.
Its main research activity field is hepatology, with particular interest in virus-related liver diseases, hepatocellular carcinoma, liver transplantation and, mainly, renal and hemodynamic disturbances in liver failure.
He has been frequently invited to held lectures at Italian and International Meetings and is the co-author of about 450 full-lenght papers including over 160 papers which appeared in international peer-reviewed journals.
