

In literature, the need for an early and intensive educational programme is
stressed. This article will present TEACCH, ABA and PECS.
For each treatment, the author will emphasise the basic assumptions, the objectives,
the commitment required from parents and the chief studies carried out to
evaluate their effectiveness.
Brief considerations on the pharmacological treatment of autism are also included.
However, since this aspect of the treatment is viewed as a secondary and collateral
approach within the overall rehabilitative process of “taking charge” of the
patient, it cannot be deemed as the chief resource to be employed.
