Gianmartino (Gianni) Benzi received his MD first-class honours degree in 1955. In the University of Pavia (Italy) he is full professor of Pharmacology, head of the Pharmacology and Biotechnology Section of the Department of Physiological and Pharmacological Sciences, and head of the Postgraduate School in Regulatory Affairs.
The main interest area of Dr. Benzi is represented by the neurobiology and neuropathology of ageing and degenerative brain disorders. A side-field of interestis represented by the abuse and misuse of drugs in sport.
Dr. Benzi worked with the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Consumer Protection of the European Parliament and was the expert of the Economic and Social Committee of EU in Brussels. As from 1994 he is the European Parliament Representative at the Management Board of the European Medicines Evaluation Agency (EMEA-London), at the European Commitee for Orphan Medical Products, and at the European Working Party on Herbal Medicines.
