 Dr. Mirco Ponzoni

Born in Genoa, Italy, September 4, 1956
In July 1975 the candidate graduated at the Institute of Technology (I.T.I.S.) for chemist in Genoa, Italy, getting the full marks.
In December 1977 he graduated specialised laboratory technician at the School of the General Laboratory of the G. Gaslini Institute.
Since January 1978 to October 1988 he worked as blood technician at the Paediatric Department of Haematology and Oncology at the G. Gaslini Institute.
In December 1982 the candidate graduated “cum laude” in Biological Sciences at the University of Genoa, discussing the following experimental thesis: “Short term condition of growth of proliferating cells: drug action on normal haematopoietic cells, stimulated lymphocytes and tumoral cells”.
Since 2/25/1985 to 3/25/1986 the candidate was a Fogarty Visiting Fellow from the G. Gaslini Pediatric Institute of Genoa, Italy, assigned to the Laboratory of Cell Biology, Division of Blood and Blood Products, OBRR/FDA, Bethesda, MD, USA.
Since 6/16/1986 to 7/30/1986 he was a Guest Scientist in the Laboratory of Cell Biology, Division of Blood and Blood Products, OBRR/FDA, Bethesda, MD, USA.
In May 1987 the candidate graduated “Specialised in Biochemistry” at the University of Pavia, Italy.
Since 4/18/1988 to 5/16/1988 he was a Guest Scientist in the Laboratory of Cell Biology, Division of Blood and Blood Products, OBRR/FDA, Bethesda MD, USA.
Since October 1988 to January 1992 he worked as Researcher, directing the Biochemistry Section of the Oncology Research Laboratory, G. Gaslini Children’s Hospital, Genoa.
Since January 1996 to January 1997 he took a Sabbatical period at the Genetic Institute of Alghero (SS).
Since January 1992 to December 2000 he worked as Senior Investigator at the Laboratory of Oncology, G. Gaslini Children’s Hospital, Genoa.
Since August 2001 to October 2001 and since September to October 2004 he was a Guest Scientist in the Molecular Medicine Laboratory, University of Newcastle, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.
Since January 2001 he is working as head of the Differentiation Therapy Unit at the G. Gaslini Children’s Hospital, Genoa.
