We have long participated in congresses, conferences, round table discussions, etc., whose scientific features are invariably a mere pretext for the sector’s economic operators, an occasion to organise marketingbased advertising operations.
To be frank the sight of professionals wandering about with paper bags packed with products and little gifts was rather depressing and even disqualifying.
On 28-29-30 July 2005 there was nothing of all this at the IATMO Conference (International Academy of Tumour Marker Oncology) held in Varese: focus only centred on purely scientific issues. The speakers, ever present in every session, took it in turn to intervene with targeted questions, generating information exchange between equally skilled interlocutors who came
from all parts of the world, as you will read in the following pages.
The disease’s form and evolution were thoroughly analysed.
Research and the new treatments introduced give rise to many hopes, but we shall exhaustively develop the point very soon. Both justified and unjustified absentees missed a good chance - the opportunity to participate in one of those rare meetings where the medical profession plays its qualified and qualifying role while at the same time it regains ethics, which have been disregarded for far too long.
