Prof. Walter Pasini, expert in International Medicine, is the
founder of the new medical field called Travel Medicine, which
is designed to promote and protect the health of tourists and
other travellers.
Graduated with honours in Medicine and Surgery at the Università
Statale di Milano in 1975, he specialised in Occupational Medicine,
Cardiology, Sports Medicine and Hydrology, Climatology and Thalassotherapy.
Since 1988 he has been Director of the World Health Organization’s
Collaboration Centre for Travel Medicine. In this capacity he
has organised 7 international conferences on tourist medicine
and 8 national conferences.
He has authored many books targeted at physicians numbering “Viaggi
e salute:
dall’Afghanistan allo Zimbabwe” (1992), “Viaggi,
salute e sicurezza: paese per paese” (1995), “II medico
ed il paziente immigrato” (1996), “Le vaccinazioni
dell’adulto” (1997), “In salute attorno al mondo”
(2000), “ Il medico ed il bioterrorismo” ( 2002),
“ Come e perché prescrivere una cura termale”
(2004), “Salute e sicurezza nei 5 continenti”(2005)
and “Per un’Italia in salute” (2005).
He is the author of the Health Passport; 6 million copies were
distributed in Europe between 1992 and 1993 and 1,500,000 copies
were distributed in Italy between 1998 and 1999. The document’s
new edition containing relevant novelties will be released in
2006.
As Director of the World Health Organization’s Collaboration
Centre for Travel Medicine, Prof. Pasini is organising the 5th
European Conference on Travel Medicine, which will be held in
Venice on 23 - 25 March 2006. It will centre on bird flu and the
