At
the end of June in Rome there was the meeting of the
AMCI (Italian Association of Catholic Physicians).
The meeting had an objective: "To establish a
political line for defending life and the family by
the catholic physicians in the political sphere".
Amongst the speakers there were Rocco Buttiglione,
Carlo Casini, Domenico Di Virgilio, Paola Binetti,
Alberico Navarini, Mons. Rino Fisichella who pointed
out the "arrogance of laicists on themes which
concern human nature" in his speech, when he
stated: "imposing silence on Catholics, is like
violence". This is where we focus our attention,
on the contradictions in politicians who claim that
they are Catholic and then ignore the indications
of the Holy Father, creating confusion. Verbal statements
are only valid when they are coherently followed by
facts. For example: Paola Binetti carried out a thorough
job as president of the referendum committee on the
referendum called to limit the use of embryos in research,
asking Catholics for their support. Subsequently she
once again asked the Catholics for their support,
in the coalition in which there are other political
groups and "personalities" supporting unlimited
experiments on embryos and which support all those
initiatives undermining human nature and the family.
However, it does not stop there, in the Senate she
voted in favour of an initiative of Mussi who removed
Italy's signature from the committee established with
another two nations to limit experimentation on embryos.
Indeed, her vote neutralised the result of the referendum.
We have had the fortune and the privilege to personally
meet Padre Pio, José Maria Escrivà de
Balaguer, Padre Lombardi, Mons. Ferro and others who
it would take too long to mention. In all of them,
despite their different personalities, we have found
faith, coherence, intransigence and the rectitude
to which we refer today.
The scientific part of this issue is entirely dedicated
to the Neurosciences, with one of the most advanced
researches in the medical field which will undoubtedly
trigger developments and give answers to those questions
which we are still asking about the mysteries of the
mind.
It is a step of the scientific progress which we have
already touched on in the past in 1992 and which we
will continue to follow with great interest and passion.
