SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES
Has conducted research in neurotoxicology, clinical
neuropsychiatry and neuropsychopharmacology frameworks
since 1972. Has participated with papers and personal
communications in many national and international
conferences. The results of such activities are the
focus of many scientific works (ca 200 publications
numbering 92 original articles in national and international
reviews and books, specialist chapters in medical
treatises, such as Enciclopedia Treccani, for which
she enlarged on topics such as the biological foundations
of depression and psychodrugs.
1978-80 Copartnership in the Ministry of Health's
research funds and collaboration as scientific consultant
in the field of addiction to medicinal drugs.
2005 Coordinator of the international multicentre
study on the use of Cannabis in the treatment of oncological
pain.
Main fields of research
" Neuropsychopharmacological, neuroendocrinological
and toxicological, clinical and experimental studies
in the field of addiction to oppiates and alcoholism.
Especially clinical and experimental research on drugs,
which are direct antagonists of opioid receptors (naloxone
and naltrexene) in various clinical situations.
"Neuropharmacological, neuropsychological and
neuroendocrinological studies on clinical and experimental
aspects of basic headache and the clinical and forensic
aspects of headache following injuries.
-Clinical and neuroendocrinological studies of stress-related
conditions.
- Headaches in the Emergency Department.
-Aspects of drug economics in the field of pain.
-Therapeutic use of cannabis in oncological pain.
Teaching Assignments
From 1975 to date - Professor of Neurology at the
1st School of Medicine, La Sapienza University, Rome,
and in various Short Professional Degree Courses and
Schools of Specialisation. Performs voluntary work
with the Association I diritti civili nel 2000 [Civil
Rights in 2000] The Association I diritti civili nel
2000 is a non profit voluntary organisation, which
pursues social solidarity and utility goals. It has
collaborated with the UN's Italian Office, the European
Parliament, the State Police, the Municipality of
Rome, La Sapienza University and the Umberto I General
Hospital, Rome. For the past ten years the Association
has worked on issues such as multiethnic society,
fight against infanticide, commodification of the
female body and defence of the rights of the elderly.
It has worked free of charge for other voluntary associations
in the field of schooling assistance to children and
youth from families undergoing economical difficulties.
All activities have been extensively publicised by
the press and media in various European countries.
The perspective developed in the approach to social
issues is the protection of civil rights and freedom.
The Association I diritti civili nel 2000 [Civil Rights
in 2000], always backed by prestigious sponsors, has
promoted the rights of children, the elderly and women
in enhanced conditions of fragility for over ten years.
In particular, this year the Association has collaborated
with the State Police in projects concerning the protection
of minors. In recent years, in collaboration with
the Umberto I General Hospital, La Sapienza University,
the Lazio Regional Administration and the Municipality
of Rome, it launched the project Salvabebé
e Salva mamme [Save Babes and Save Mums] against infanticide
to offer a chance to women who either cannot or do
not wish to make use of the option of anonymous delivery
and for mother's who live in conditions of poverty.
